A new technique

I should clarify that title and say it's a new technique for me!!  It's using an acrylic block to create a background.  Unfortunately this is the only example I have left.  All the others have sold before I got a chance to photograph them.  Bad, disorganised me!!  Essentially you colour directly onto your acrylic block with the markers of your choice (lightest colour first!), spritz lightly with some water then stamp onto your cardstock. You get a different effect each time - depending on the colour - mix, orientation and saturation. You then over-stamp it with a solid image.  The centre of the flower has been stamped with a crumb cake image, punched and popped.  Sorry that the photo does not show this clearly.

I tried a fancy cut out on the side of the card to showcase the bow.

Supplies:
Paper - very vanilla and crumb cake c/s
Stamp - "enjoy every moment" (ret), "bliss" (SAB), "fresh cuts" (ret)
Ink - rich razzleberry and crumb cake markers, rich razzleberry and crumb cake ink pads
Tools - acrylic block, mister (for water)
Other - spotted ribbon from stash
Adhesive - snail, sticky strip, dimensionals

Market tomorrow and then another one on Sunday.  I just hope I have made enough stock or I won't be sleeping Saturday night!!  Yesterday was an absolute scorcher and today it's cool - go figure!  The weekend is supposed to be cool and mild.  Here's hoping.  Hope you have a fabulous one.

Happy crafting!

Masculine birthday - unexpected papers

Today's offering is two masculine birthday cards using papers that on the face of it would not be associated with birthdays for the boys in our life.  The papers are "Howlstooth and Scaringbone" and "Twitterpated".
Yes, I know!! Halloween and girly!! But they both work wonderfully.

Card #1 uses the Halloween DSP.

Supplies:
Paper - so saffron, pumpkin pie and very vanilla c/s, "howlstooth and scaringbone" DSP (seasonal catalogue)
Stamp - "bring on the cake"
Ink - basic black
Tools - decorative label punch, retired punch
Adhesive - snail, dimensionals

Card #2 uses the "girly"  DSP
The banner for the sentiment was handcut.

Supplies:
Paper - basic grey and whisper white c/s, "twitterpated" DSP
Stamp - "bring on the cake"
Ink - basic black
Tools - extra large oval punch
Other - grey dot ribbon from stash
Adhesive - snail, sticky strip, dimensionals

Off to have my second coffee of the day made in the wonderful espresso machine given to me by my children for my birthday.  They also gave me a week off kitchen duty - no grocery shopping, no cooking, no cleaning!!  I could seriously get used to that!!  Comment from my daughter at the end of the week - "mum, that is really hard work - all the organising and having to remember to do it so we ate before midnight!" I had a quiet chuckle!!

Hope you have a wonderful day.

Happy crafting!

Scrapturday October 2012

Spoiler alert!  This card does not use Stampin up DSP - shock!! I am trying to use up my stash of bits and pieces of paper.  Most of it is Christmas themed (total Christmas junkie!!), so I am making all my contribution for Cards for the Troops from my stash.  See Paper Lady on the side bar for details if you want to get involved.

Supplies:
Paper - whisper white and lucky limeade c/s, DSP from stash
Stamp - "snow swirled"
Ink - rose red
Tools - Big Shot, "polka dots" embossing folder, large oval punch, decorative label punch
Other - pear pizzaz pleated ribbon (ret), buttons from stash, lucky limeade bakers twine
Adhesive - snail, sticky strip, dimensionals, glue dots (to adhere buttons)

After a few days of really hot weather it has turned cold again. I need a revolving sock drawer!!  Have a great day.

Happy crafting!

Bag and matching card

Karen of Paperlady is an amazing source of great ideas.  Every time I attend her class I come away with some new idea or technique.  Last week she showed us how to make a gift bag out of 2 sheets of DSP and a co-ordinating card.  Now I have my Christmas wrapping sorted!!

Supplies:
Paper - "floral district" DSP, rich razzleberry c/s
Tools - Simply scored, circle punch and Crop-o-dile (to make holes for ribbon to thread through - could also use a single hole punch)
Other - white organza ribbon
Adhesive, snail, sticky strip

This card uses a stamp set that I was not enamoured of when I saw it in the catalogue - but after using the cute little flowers stamp I just have to have it. I coloured the stamp with markers so I could mimic the DSP.
The tag was made by rounding the top corners and embossing the body with one of the set of 2 frames embossing folders.  The top tab is just a modern label folded in half. The main flower is a scallop punch cut out of a much larger stamp and the other flowers are fussy cut. Everything is layered and popped.

Supplies:
Paper - whisper white, baja breeze and rich razzleberry c/s
Stamp - "betsy's blossoms"
Ink - rich razzleberry, pool party, daffodil delight and pumpkin pie ink pads, rich razzleberry, pumpkin pie and rose red markers
Tools - Big Shot, "frames" embossing folder, Crop-o-dile (to set the eyelet), modern label punch, corner rounder
Other - eyelet, white crochet cotton, daffodil delight button
Adhesive - snail, dimensionals, glue dot (to adhere button)

Markets yesterday so Scrapturday will be posted tomorrow. Hope you are having a fabulous weekend.

Happy crafting!

"Mummy" I love you!!

Here are a couple of my attempts at Halloween cards. They use some of the products available in the Christmas/Holiday seasonal catalogue (products only available til 31st January 2013). The catalogue definitely had me looking for dollars behind the couch cushions because it has sooo many yummy things!  If you would like a copy of the catalogue just email me (susan.coates1@bigpond.com) and I will pop one in the post to you. Anyway - on to today's cards.

I embossed the orange background piece with a polka dots folder. The image was stamped and fussy cut. It's actually two separate images. The spider was adhered with a dimensional and the mummy was stuck to the scallop circle with snail.  The scallop circle was popped with a dimensional.  Then the whole piece was popped over the ribbon on dimensionals.  The cute little googly eye is self adhesive and is available in a set of 50 for $4.50.

Supplies:
Paper - basic grey, basic black, pumpkin pie, old olive and very vanilla c/s, "howlstooth and scaringbone" DSP (seasonal catalogue)
Stamp - "googly ghouls" (seasonal catalogue)
Ink - basic black
Tools - Big Shot, "polka dots" embossing folder, 3.2 cm scallop circle punch (seasonal catalogue)
Other - googly eye (seasonal catalogue), spotted ribbon is from my stash
Adhesive - snail, sticky strip, dimensionals

Going to class tomorrow for some crafting fun.  I always come away so inspired!  I love how we all have the same "starting" point but everyone comes up with their own interpretation - even if it's only a different colour way.  As Karen says "a mistake is not a mistake, it is an opportunity to embellish!!"

I'm back and finally on the road to recovery!!

Sorry I have been neglecting you for so long.  I have health issues and they turned really nasty at the end of July and I ended up spending 3 1/2 weeks of September in hospital. Got out just in time to celebrate my son's 19th birthday and watch the AFL grand final - our team won!!! Very happy household.  Slowly recovering and have started back at the markets and creating. Have a couple of cards to share with you today.

First up is a card from our team meeting in October where we were challenged to create a card using a sketch and "twitterpated" DSP. Karen kindly supplied everything and I enjoyed the "discipline" of the challenge and crafting with like-minded souls.  Couldn't resist fussy cutting something though! The floral image was stamped three times in different colours and then bits were fussy cut and adhered to create a coloured image.  You could make it easier on yourself and use markers!!

Supplies:
Paper - poppy parade (card base), pear pizzaz, pink pirouette and whisper white, "twitterpated" DSP
Stamp - "teeny tiny sentiments", "fresh vintage" (sale-a-bration)
Ink - pear pizzaz, poppy parade and island indigo
Tools - decorative label punch
Other - blushing bride pleated satin ribbon (ret)
Adhesives - snail, sticky strip, dimensionals

The second card is the August team meeting swap that I made. This one is a bit wonky as I forgot to save a good one for me!  This is the prototype.  I had just got the framelits and the butterfly die so I had to use them!!  The challenge was to use DSP.

Supplies:
Paper - pear pizzaz (card base), very vanilla, "everyday enchantment" DSP (sale-a-bration)
Stamp - "a word for you"
Ink - crumb cake (sponging), poppy parade
Tools - Big shot, "labels collection" framelits, "beautiful wings" embosslits, scallop oval punch, sponge dauber
Other - white crochet fibre
Adhesive - snail, dimensionals

Hope you are all well.  Bring on summer here in the southern hemisphere and I hope the cold season is not too harsh in the top end of the globe.  Craft long and laugh hard!

Happy crafting!
Cheers
